Homemade-from-scratch Marinara Sauce is marvelous, but not always possible. On busy days you can concoct a delicious sauce from a few pantry ingredients. Wonderful in pasta dishes, as a pizza sauce (see Quick Whole Grain Pizza and Make-Ahead Pizza Dough), or a dip for Big Soft Bread Twists.
|Homemade flavor from pantry staples|
15 oz. can tomato sauce
2 tsp olive oil
1/2 tsp garlic salt
1/4 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp dried basil
1/2 tsp dried rosemary
1 Tbs sugar
Several grindings of black pepper
Combine all ingredients in a small pan. Cook over medium heat for 10 minutes or longer to allow flavors to meld. Store leftovers in the refrigerator up to 5 days or freeze for up to 6 months.
