Type snacks into the search bar to bring up a bevy of healthful nibbles… preservative- and transfat-free Rosemary Crackers, protein and fiber rich Gonzo Beans, sweet, crispy Cinnamon Apple Chips made in the dehydrator, Brown Bag Popcorn, crisp, savory Zucchini Chips, Sweet Potato Chips, Sea Salt & Vinegar Kale Flakes, and Fresh Lemonade by-the-glass to refresh your tastebuds.
A number of this week’s recipes are prepared in the dehydrator. I find a dehydrator to be an indispensable and fun tool in my quest to offer my family healthful choices when it comes to snacks. What kind of dehydrator do I have? A nine tray Excalibur, a country girl’s dream. Mine was a birthday gift from Mom, but if you are considering one it is an investment that pays for itself over and over… and over. I started out with an inexpensive Nesco Gardenmaster, a stack-able round tray unit widely available at retailers during the harvest season. I have several friends who have found perfectly good dehydrators at yard sales and thrift stores, so keep your eyes open! They are out there!
A few tips on snacks and snacking…
We are busy. We get hungry. Snacking is inevitable. So plan for it. Prepare some good quality snacks in advance of the cravings. You’ll be glad you did.
